ASTM F436M
ASTM F436M is a low leaded copper alloy with 96% copper by weight and silicon about 2-4% by weight along with other elements such as iron, manganese, zinc, and Dlead. Silicon bronze is widely available and used in alloy 651 and alloy 655 across product forms such as bars and rods, wires, extruded pipes and tubes, plates, casting, ingots and fasteners such as bolts, screws, studs, nuts, washers, threaded bars, etc.
ASTM F436M has a reddish-golden colored appearance and can be easily hot forged, cold forged and heat treated to various temper class. ASTM F436M alloy is easily weldable, soldered, and casted. As compared to common brass, ASTM F436M is prominently used as marine grade alloy owing to its greater resistance to fresh water, salt water. alkalis, acids, and organic chemicals. It has good resistance, strength and formability with low magnetic permeability and decent conductivity. Currently it is widely used for decorative, architectural, and marine applications.
